The Devil Wears DesiatoDann Dykas
When one thinks about high fashion and couture, they often think about cities such as Paris and Milan, never Phoenix. So when Scottsdale bought its way into the world of the fashionista and began its Scottsdale Fashion Week, Phoenix designers suddenly had a chance at the runway aside from Project Runway season 20.
Recently, a local designer known to most as simply Desiato, scored big by landing a coveted Friday evening runway spot Nov. 7 on the Southbridge Runway at the 2008 Scottsdale Fashion Week. There, he will display a collection retrospective from his clothing line Le Bete Noire, as well as a sneak peak of his new line of men's custom fitted shirts. Pants will be supplied by Covet. Le Bete Noire is a dramatic line of high-end fashion, for both men and women, blending classical styles and contours with bold modern lines. It's like a new-age cabaret for a dark and sexy world. Desiato's sumptuous detail and craftsmanship makes each piece, be it a simple shirt or full-length ball gown, unique and eye catching. Hand-sewn details, intricate patterns and innovative designs help Le Bete Noire re-invent modern fashion with a touch of old-world haut monde. Locally, Desiato and Le Bete Noire have been a favorite on the runway at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Arts' quarterly SMoCA Nights and have appeared in the Fashion Ball and several corporate shows. Internationally, he has produced five full production solo shows in Los Angeles, as well as done styling for music videos and designed for performers. But if a prime-time spot during Fashion Week wasn't enough, Desiato and Le Bete Noire will also be gracing the high-gloss pages of the infamous Runway Magazine in its upcoming winter issue. The spread will include shots of local singer/songwriter Dawn Jameson sporting some of the most recent designs by the rising designer. So be sure to catch this hot new local designer and his work during Scottsdale Fashion Week this Nov 6-9, and keep an eye out for Runway Magazine. And whatever you do, remember the name Desiato, you'll be hearing a lot in the future, I'm sure.
