Wake up!

Artist, Magazine Creative Director

A third generation native of the Phoenix area, Eric Hendrix was first introduced to the Art scene upon graduation from Stanford University in 2002. With degrees in Communications and Studio Art, he had already shown his work nationwide, but much like David Gardner, did not identify first and foremost as an artist. During his tenure at Stanford, he began working in Art direction and company development for a new international research magazine, Odyssey.

He shortly brought those skills to Phoenix, becoming the editor and director of a handful of regional publications and international trade magazines. As the editor of IONAZ and Outlook Arizona, he established an agenda of uniting the Art scene: he recognized that the Arts and the city's cultural identity were inextricably connected and required mutual support in order for Phoenix to thrive as a cultural center and major metropolitan area.

Making the acquaintance of David Gardner in April of 2006, he was instantly inspired by the idea of a free online community for artists, and the possibilities that it offered far beyond the computer screen.

Please feel free to take a moment to puruse my collection of fine art and design works. I have been producing, exhibiting and selling work sine the late 90's. Stanf University holds my work in collections, and collectors include Stevie Nicks, Richard Simmons, Beverly Selby, Steven Shore, etc.

Shows have been held in San Francisco, Palo Alto, Washington DC, and Phoenix, most recently in conjunction with the acclaimed play, Faces on Milk Boxes, at Soul Invictus in Phoenix.

My work encompasses the human question of existence and being. I utilize my theoretical training in communication psychologies to weave symbols and narratives into multi-layered tapestries that break the barriers of language and comprehension, beckoning the user to feel beyond words--hence, the manipulation of sub-concious processing and the beckoning for greater awareness of self.

Please feel free to contact me regarding pricing and commissions.

Sincerely,
Eric Hendrix

"The Limits of Ambition"
I awake, head in a vice and carpet marks firmly tattooed upon my cheeks. As my head clears and I take full survey of all that has passed buried beneath the changing of one tiny number, past ambitions seem no more satisfied than the red circular stains at the bottom of the littering of wine glasses.
"Letter from the Editor"
For all of my fawning and analysis, it pleases me to finally come to the purpose of Art. No where else do the mediums, messages and experience of the Arts become so blurred as with performance. People create Art, they move to Art, they ARE Art.
"Letter from the Editor"
My life might as well be a movie because I already have a soundtrack. Unfortunately Danny Elfman was not available at the event of my birth to take up such an honorable project, but he certainly would have been at the top of my list.

Lynde Low, a young Phoenix native currently enrolled at Otis College of Art and Design, offers insight into the current state of Fashion design in Phoenix and at large. There seems to be an underlying struggle among artists to find the financial means to fund their work. Some believe the only way to raise money is through traditional gallery sales, but that is not necessarily the case.

Phoenix Art Space hopes to bring the many facets of artistic expression in all mediums and all functionalities such that they may feed from the ingenuity and awareness of all others: a lofty goal, yes, but one necessary to the elevation of Phoenix and its people in a very real sense.
