Product of a suburban Midwest mom, Dann Dykas was introduced to the power and exotic allure of the worlds that can only exist in ones head at an early age. Spending much of his childhood reading, drawing, wandering the forests of rural Michigan and disappearing into the growing shells of houses in the quickly sprouting surrounding suburbs he gained an appreciation for the preservation of beauty. This appreciation grew into an abusive relationship with politics and human and animal rights. A short stint studying Law at Central Michigan University left him cold and unfulfilled. After a messy divorce with his previous major he decided to move to Arizona in search of the beauty he left as a child, his artwork. Currently 24, Dann has studied fine arts at The Art Institute of Phoenix as well as Mesa Community college. He is currently separated from the bureaucratic world of colleges and running Red Spade Studio, a small gallery in downtown Phoenix. His work ranges from political and social themes, to personal tragedy and fortune, and is always influenced by his childhood. Articles about Dann Dykas
