I am interested in textures and the quality of light. In my photographs, I like to convey the essence of the southwest: its history, its people, its often harsh, but always lovely and unique climatology. If the viewer gleans a certain sense of spirituality from my work, then I feel as though I have succeeded. I hope that my photos are evocative, that they hint at a story or a scene all on their own.

Candace Porth's Images

Candace Porth has a Bachelor of Arts, Summa Cum Laude, in Art (Photographic Studies) from Arizona State University and completed some graduate level work in Art History where she did an internship with Save Outdoor Sculpture! under the direction of Arizona Commission on the Arts.

She has had photographs and/or articles published in Save Outdoor Sculpture! Update, Flagstaff Mountain Living, and the Michigan Maritime Museum South Haven South Pier Light Centennial Photo Collection. She exhibited and sold a photograph in the “Art for Art’s Sake” benefit for Arizonans for Cultural Development at eye lounge in Phoenix (2004). Candace’s prayer flags were part of a community prayer flag installation at Art Detour 2008. She exhibited and sold two works at “Art for Health,” a fundraiser benefiting Arizona State University’s College of Nursing and Healthcare Innovation in May 2008. She will be exhibiting photos at Mighty Cup Coffeehouse and Spoon Gallery in downtown Glendale in the fall of 2008.

She has been active in mail art since 1996 and has a large network of national and international mail art contacts. She had several pieces in The Trunk Space’s (Phoenix) and Gallery 11x14’s (Tempe) mail art shows in summer of 2007. An assortment of her mail art is also displayed on the refrigerator at Mama Java’s Coffeehouse (Phoenix), as well as on assorted mail art websites.

Candace is a member of the Phoenix Art Museum and artlink and supports the Downtown Chamber Series and the Herberger College of the Arts at ASU. She is also a member of The Phoenix Zoo, Arizona Humane Society, AzCats, and the ASU Alumni Association. She has lived in Phoenix for over 30 years and is employed by a large non-profit organization.
