Richard Bledsoe

Symbolist Painter

I do not choose the imagery of my work; rather, it is revealed to me in flashes of inspiration. I feel compelled to recreate the picture in my head, but the process of painting influences what I represent. My original image fluctuates, it grows and decays as I use autonomous brushstrokes to reconstruct the essential forms. Leaving evidence of the transitions creates a hallucinatory, montaged surface.
