joe-willie smithJoe Willie Smith is a multi-media artist, working primarily with found objects. For several years he has focused on 'Urban Fields Studies', constructing worksin-situ and leaving them in place as random public art. In 2005, the exhibit 'Remembering to Forget' took that process into a gallery setting at Eye Lounge with an installation of works consisting of artifacts collected from 5 'Urban Fields' within the Phoenix Metropolitan area. In 2006 a one-person exhibit of large scale branch constructions was held at Bentley Projects in Phoenix, Arizona. He also performs on experimental sonic sculptures, instruments built from found materials. In 2003-2004 Smith's work was included in 'Hair Stories' an exhibition curated by Kim Curry for the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, the exhibit traveled to several museums throughout the United States, including the Chicago Cultural Center. Joe Willie's work is in the permanent collections of The Butler Museum of American Art, The Phoenix Art Museum, Taller Experimental De Graphica, Neiman Marcus Corporation and numerous private collections. joe-willie smith's membership has expired.
