"The Tainos"

Sculpture
23" x 25" x 2" - weight 2 lbs

"The Tainos were pre-Colombian inhabitants of many of the islands that spread out from South America to the Caribbean.
The Tainos who inhabited Puerto Rico called themselves the Borinquen.
Columbus and his crew were the first Europeans to encounter the Taino people. Sadly as with many of the American natives, this would be the beginning of the end for this ancient culture. Ravaged by Old World diseases, forced into slavery, and put to death by the thousands, over 80% of the entire population of Tainos would perish between 1492 and 1531. The Tainos of Puerto Rico were known as the "Happy People"."
