Currently, I am interested in exploring new avenues in both the technical and conceptual sides of painting. With each painting I use one of two processes. First, an experimentation using surrealist techniques such as: frotage, automatic painting, decalcamania, etc. Seccond, a classical and unique look at design, color theory and composition. Eventually, refining each technique by glazing and painting with many layers helps to exploit and give volume to the image and hopefully connect the narrative which evolves from the process. I allow for the occurrences and events of my daily life and the world around me to directly affect the direction of each piece relying heavily on music, conversation, pop culture, politics, family and any other aspect of life that can creep its way into my brain while conceptualizing.

Reid Richardson's Images

My intentions focus on the technical aspects of super realism and the beautiful ambience which can be achieved through abstract painting in order to generate a feeling of incredible synergy. I live and works as a painter and printmaker in Tempe, Arizona, where I graduated from Arizona State University with a Fine Arts degree emphasizing painting. Having exhibited locally in Scottsdale, Arizona and surrounding areas, I’ve also had the privilege of exhibiting internationally in Zurich, Switzerland. Experimenting with a wide spectrum of painting styles and mediums, I’ve found myself using an unusual blend of Surrealist techniques and imagery with the lighting and traditional approach of Italian and Dutch masters. I use the hidden intentions of my creative subconscious to start the process of each new piece and rely on reflection of my daily life to refine each paintings purpose. Inspired by the poetic sunsets and skyscapes of Arizona I am attracted to create fantastic images of new worlds and landscapes that exist only in the imagination. Each day and event is a new adventure which my work intends to communicate through the pure enjoyment of painting.

“His work transcends the boundaries of any particular painting style, creating a unique beauty which engages the intellect as well as the emotions of the viewer.”
